Ongoing Activities at Centrespace

Fellowship Group

There are people who are looking for an opportunity to share ideas and interests with others in an accepting atmosphere on a fairly regular basis. We offer this opportunity here: it is a monthly informal evening meeting.

It begins by sharing news may one wish to, and then one of the group introduces a topic: it can be anything: a current issue in the news, a book which has meant a lot, an experience, etc. We find that this kind of format works well.

Please let Richard know if this appeals, and/or tell friends about it.

Meditation

A small group has started to meet for MEDITATION in the Quiet Room (20-25 mins) on Mondays at 12 noon for 12.20 pm. There is room for several more, so join us if this is for you. Meditating with others certainly has advantages.

Awareness Training Course

Heike is at present forming a new EXPLORING THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED group - an awareness training course on Scott Peck's famous book.
"Life is difficult - we cannot expect it to owe us an easy time".

Recognising and working through our difficulties brings us a new understanding:
Discovering joy and purpose in life.
There are 12 weekly meetings. Please telephone for further details: 01227 462038.

Quiet Days

We all need times of withdrawal from busy lives - time to recover in body, mind and spirit. Quiet Days are for inward renewal: helpful texts and pictures can help us in this as do periods of silence, prayer or meditation together.

Please get in touch for further details.

Circle Dancing

Weekly meeting an Wesdnesday evenings in Canterbury, led by Heike.

About Us

Our own spiritual source is the Christian Faith and the Church of England. We also welcome people who come from different faith backgrounds and those who profess no particular faith.

"Struggle and Contemplation". These are the components of life in the words of Roger Schutz (Taize). Life consist of both engagement and withdrawal, tension and relaxation, giving out and taking in. The tendency with many of us though, is that we have too much of the first and not enough of the second. While it is wonderful that there are so many purposeful and necessary things to do, many of which bring fulfillment, all of us are in real danger of becoming unbalanced and losing a sense of our real centre.

After a busy and occupied time, we ourselves have often found a sense of "coming home" when we give ourselves even a few minutes pause for reading, reflection, or even doing nothing but living in the present moment.

We have found these times are valuable, even essential for a healthy and balanced life. They are revitalising and purifying: they bring more of our creativity and alertness to our work and our activities. They enable us to draw deeply from the well of faith that lies within each person.

photo of fire in fireplace To this end, we offer our home as a place for individuals or small groups to withdraw to. This place lends itself well to this purpose, being amazingly quiet and surrounded by natural beauty; yet close enough to Canterbury that you can see the Bell Harry tower of the cathedral just over the top of the hill.

As well as retreats for individuals and couples; we also hold, from time to time, a Quiet Day for small groups. This experience can be truly enriching as the participants, creating an energy together, have opportunities for exchange and sharing. The Quiet Day has some structure with two introductions on a spiritual theme, group meditation or prayer and time for personal space.
